#RIP, Robin Gibb (1949-2012)

I really don't know what to say.
The Bee Gees were an integral part of my musicianship and my childhood.
A non-musician will NEVER understand how it hurts when one of your influences passes.
Maurice and now Robin are gone, leaving Barry.
Here's the message left today on Robin's website.

"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away on Sunday 20 May, 2012 at 10:46pm following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. They have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

Robin Gibb was 62 years old.

#RIP, Donna Summer (1948-2012)

Donna Summer, the undisputed Queen Of Disco, died earlier today
after a long, quiet battle with lung cancer, which she believed was brought
on from living in New York City during 9/11 and the debris and chemicals
that lingered in the air around Ground Zero.
Ms. Summer, born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, , was a 5-time Grammy winner who Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard charts.
Ms. Summer was 63 years old.
Of all the songs I LOVE of Donna Summer's, the one that COMPLETELY floors me was a little song that was produced by Quincy Jones, one that was a foreshadower of Quincy's production on "We Are The World".
It was a remake of a song by Jon & Vangelis called "State Of Independence".
The amazing thing about this song that singing BACKUP were Michael Jackson, Stevie WOnder, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and others.
Check out the quick making-of clip of this masterpiece, followed by the completed track.
Rest eternally, Donna Summer.

New Music: Arrested Development - "Living"

Met this group (along with Spike Lee) years ago at Spike's Joint in Brooklyn.
Humble and good people. Speech came from behind his autographing desk to give me a hug and dap.
AD tweeted me this link and I was SO inspired.
THIS type of Hip-Hop is MUCH needed.

President Obama Publicly Supports Same-Sex Marriage [VIDEO]

Religious dogma and beliefs aside, our President stands for equality for all people.
As a civil servant, he stands for the people.
I, as a heterosexual male, am very proud that friends and family that I hold dear
have been publicly supported by our president.
It has ALWAYS been a CIVIL issue...
and for those who say it "threatens the sanctity of marriage"?
I'd be the first to say that I disagree. The #1 threat to the sanctity of marriage?

#RIP, Adam Yauch (MCA) of The Beastie Boys

 Sigh. This one really hurts.
Less than 2 years after announcing his cancer diagnosis,
legendary rapper Adam Yauch, better known as MCA of Hip-Hop group and
recent Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Beastie Boys,
passed away earlier today.
It is at the moment unclear if his death was related to his cancer diagnosis.
The Beastie Boys have been heralded by many for helping bring
Hip-Hop to mainstream radio, as all 3 members were from affluent families that
were deep in Hip-Hop culture in the its toddler stages, signed to Def Jam Records
by the legendary producer Rick Rubin in 1985, which led to their CLASSIC debut
album, "Licensed To Ill" which spawned the classic Hip-Hop tracks,
"No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn", "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)" and "Brass Monkey".
Adam Yauch was 47 years old.
